Clifford Essex ‘Popular’ Tenor Banjo, 19 fret-£550

A very lovely banjo, made in England some time between 1900 and 1919. It has a mahogany neck, inlayed ebony fretboard and a brass and beech rim. All the lugs are working, as is the original tailpiece. The original tuners were no longer fit for purpose and have been replaced with modern geared ones, but I can include the old ones in the sale. It has a new Remo head and has been fitted with a new nut and bridge.

There is some cosmetic wear to the inside of the hoop and to the fingerboard beyond the last fret, and someone has chosen to carve the note names in the side of the neck (see photos). Structurally it is very sound and is playing nicely. Currently tuned GDAE

Overall length:82.5cm, scale length 58cm (23″), 11 inch pot
