These are advertised as ‘student pipes’ on Sean’s website and are essentially a simple one drone version of his border pipes. The d=fingering system and tone/pressure are closer to central french pipes than true border pipes, with lots of accidentals available (two thumb holes at the back.
The seem to be made from sort of tropical hardwood, maybe mopane. They’re playing brilliantly and sound wonderful.
I’ve owned a couple of sets of Sean’s pipes, they are fantastic instruments at a great price and don’t often come up for sale secondhand.
