A very fine 6 string bass viol/viola da gamba.
Probably a late 20th century instrument, I can’t find a makers name, but the number 104 is written several times inside. Whoever made it must have been reasonably prolific to complete that many instruments.
It has a spruce top with the back, sides and neck made from highly figured maple. The fingerboard, tailpiece and pegs are all rosewood. It is in exceptional cosmetic condition and has a beautiful, honey-coloured oil varnish.
The tied nylon frets are in good order and it is fitted with gut strings, the bottom three of which are wound.
The instruments speaks very easily with a dark and creamy bass.
It comes in a fitted hard case.
Scale Length: 650mm, overall length: 1200mm
