Mirliton/Eunuch Flute-£70

The mirliton/eunuch flute/onion flute is, in essence, an early kazoo. Dating from the 16th/17th cenutries, the player hums or sings into the hole in the side and a membrane inside the windcap adds a raspy quality to the sound.

This example would seem to be made by Rick Baines who, according to my research, was making wind instruments in Prestwich in the 1970s.

It’s very well made, turned in what looks like cherry, is in good cosmetic condition and is playing well.
