Tenor Resonator Guitar by Stuart Wailing-£480

A very unusual little creation here from UK luthier Stuart Wailing. I suppse the best way to to describe it would be as a short-scale tenor resonator guitar. It has metal strings tuned CGDA (or similar) and a scale length of 485mm(19″).

It’s fitted with two pickups, a magnetic one under the strings and a piezo attached to the cone of the resonator. The switch gives you the option of one, the other or both and the two knobs control the volume of each. Electrics are all working well.

A very eccentric selection of timbers, what looks like a sapele neck continues all the way through the instrument, surrounded at the body by some oak, ebony and more sapele. The ebony fingerboard is a particularly nice piece of timber.

All in all, it’s a joy to play and sounds fantastic. I always feel like this is the range where resonators sound best and this instrument ceratinly refelects that.
