Banjolele (formerly a mandolin banjo) by Savana-£175

A very nicely made thing this. The Savana ‘Sunray’, a british made instrument from the 1920s. It’s clearly meant to be a mandolin banjo, but came to me strung like a banjolele.

As so few mandolin banjos from this period survive without their necks warping, I’ve decided to leave it as it is. It’s playing well with 4 strings, but its new owner could also tune it to have four pairs of nylion strings (like an 8 string ukulele), or take the risk and string it up with mandolin strings.

It has a beaurtiful walnut pot with a very attractive brass resonator, a perloid covered back plate, and is fitted with a very fine vellum head.

Comes in a tatty old cardboard case.
