A nice ten string cittern, made by Gerald Adam in Norwich in 1983.
Rosewood back and side, mahogany neck, spruce top with attractive binding and very nice purfling to the back and sides.
It’s playing very nicely and sounds great, currently tuned GDGDG, with the bottom three courses tuned in octaves. The frets and nut are both quite flat in profile, giving a slightly buzzier sound, closer to a greek bouzouki or Turkish sax than a Mandolin family instrument. This could be changed of course by reshaping the nut and reprofiling the frets. The frets themselves have some wear but there is a few more years life left in them I think.
Cosmetically, it’s seen better days, with plenty of scratches and some discolouration/checking to the varnish.
Fitted with a working Schaller pickup (I’m guessing piezo), stuck to the top of the instrument and mounted to a jack socket that comes in through the side. This could be removed if desired.
Comes with a very good fitted hard case
Plays well and sounds great.
