Dutar-Uzbekistan-£200

The dutar is a two stringed, long-necked lute found in various forms in throughout Central Asia and Iran. This example could be from Uzbekistan or Tajikistan, but is more likely from the Uzbek or Tajik parts of Afghanistan. It appears to be made of mulberry wood and is inlaid with coloured plastic pieces, some of which are missing. The very long neck has tied nylon frets and the strings are tensioned with carved friction pegs. The body is hollowed out from a single piece of timber and carved into an elegant bulb shape.

It is playing well with a characteristically warm tone.
