A stunning if slightly disheveled looking guitar by, made in 1962 by English maker Maurice Johnson.
Mahogany neck, cypress back and sides, very nice spruce top.
It has traditional friction tuners which are working but could do with a little attention, there are a few issues with the binding on the back and most obviously one of the golpeadors (pickguard) has come off and there is some damage to the finish beneath. Some very slight bellying to the top. It’s been played a lot and has the scars to prove it.
Appearances aside, it’s playing brilliantly and sounds incredible. I’ve deliberately done nothing to it and have kept the price low accordingly. If someone was willing to spend a few hundred pounds with the right luthier, it could look amazing again, or someone who doesn’t care what it looks like could get an extraordinary instrument for a steal.
