An interesting instrument this one. Not a hardingfele in the strictest sense, but it has four sympathetic strings so it does the thing most people want from one. I recently acquired three instruments with Adams’ name on them, the others being a guitar and a cittern. It’s not clear whether he made the whole instrument here or put a new neck on an existing fiddle, but the results are good.
The instrument is eccentrically decorated and is a little rough around the edges, but is playing very well and sounds great, with the sympathetic strings doing their thing very well.
There is a repaired soundpost crack in the back, which appears to have been repaired with epoxy, rather than the proper thing of patching in a section, but seems to be holding.
There was a complicated pickup system in it, which I have since removed, but we’re left with the jack socket in place of an end pin. It works fine so I’ve left it there.
Standard violin scale length. Comes in a hard case.
