I’m not 100% certain that it is this specific member of the huqin family, but it’s my best guess. If I’m right then it’s used as the accompanying instrument to the smaller jinghu in Beijing opera. I would estimate it to be made in the first half of the 20th century.
It is very elegant in its simplicity and is very well made, with some very beautiful and thorough repairs made over the years. It’s not currently got its bridle tied round the strings, I’m happy to do that or not according to the preference of any prospective buyers.
