A very solid long neck 5-string banjo made in Germany by Framus. These 1970s German instruments are not fashionable but I think they’re great. This is a typical example, really solidly built, sounds great and easily adjusted for set up.
This one has an interesting laminate neck, a detachable resonator, plays great and has a surporingly ‘cloppy’, old-time appropriate sound. Plenty of knocks and scrapes etc.
These long neck banjos were nominally Pete Seeger’s innovation. They are designed to play three semitones down (B,E,G#,B) and acheive this by essentially having three extra frets at the bottom. It can therefore be capoed at the third fret to play at standard pitch and with a standard scale length.
Scale length is 820mm
