Tenor Viol by Robert Bailey-£3800

An really wonderful tenor viol by Robert Bailey of Norwich in 1995. The instrument is in very good condition, looks to have hardly been played.

Very unusal shape to the body, very wide and with a pronouced curve to the shoulders. It’s unlike any historical instrument I’ve seen, may have been his own design. The choice of timbers seems to have been very economical, no real figuring to it and my guess would be that it’s sycamore rather than maple. The whole thing is incredibly light.

The tone is excellent, very open and grainy sounding and speaks very easily.

Comes with a really nice hard case, also in very good condition.

Scale length: 540mm
